Marvin’s SMS to me, a couple of days before the wedding: Pare, basta, naiyak ako habang ginawaga ko ‘tong kanta. (I was crying when I was recording this song).
You see, Marvin (arranger, composer and formerly of the 80s supergroup Neocolors) was trying to finish the song of his life days before his wedding day. It was going to be a surprise for Celeste (who knew nothing about the dinner program). And it was going to be the soundtrack for their onsite video.
Prior to the actual song, Marvin also had a poem she wrote him years ago recorded - again the accompaniment to that poem is original, a melody humming in the groom’s head for the longest time.
(edit: It was actually Mr. Toto Sorioso, former bandmate of Marvin who wrote the song. :o)
Can you imagine the pressure of that? Add the fact that it was going to be simple evening civil ceremony - march - vows - kiss - end - dinner - speeches - performances - OnsiteVideo! Tough job but somebody has to do it.
It was interesting to note that the day started very early at the Las Pinas Hall of Justice where a civil ceremony was held, the first of two that day. After lunch, “Don” Juan Sarte beautified the bride with Raymond Isaac taking pictures throughout the day.
One of the highlights of the evening was when close friend Piolo Pascual surprised Celeste with a song. She burst into tears as Piolo earlier that week sent his regrets for the affair. It was totally unexpected.
So many moments to remember - the 35 piece orchestra with Gerard Salonga conducting, the long arduous road to the wedding day, the baby pink gown, the touching Father-Daughter Dance, the genuine love and appreciation of the couple for the attendees.
Paolo, in his thank you speech, gave full appreciation to the Big guy above for stalling the downpour. The weather couldn’t be more cooperative the whole day.
The two pavilions of Blue Leaf were packed with guests dressed to the nines.
It’s also noteworthy that event planner Jody Liwanag, enlisted the help of fellow PAWP members Nenita Zagala (Celebrations), Peaches Go-Tiu and Lisa Alvedo (Kasalan) to run the wedding smoothly. I’m envious of PAWP, I hope to have something like they have for videographers.
You know how us wedding suppliers always say how sweet, awesome and moving the weddings we do are? Definitely not exaggerations but it takes events like the one we did last Sunday to remind us, the couple and everybody else that there’s a long hard (yet sweet) road ahead.
Anniversaries are waaaay more awesome and inspiring. The couples have been there and they have done that. They have fulfilled their vows (on weddings they remain word) and have kept true to their promises.
The Dizon’s are a happy bunch. Well mannered and a joy to work with. Check out the faberge egg ring holder, if you follow the blog closely, this debuted in Stella and Randy’s wedding last year. Come Aug 16, you’ll probably see it again because it’s Rodney’s turn.
Bambi gave me an All Access Photopass to shoot the event - was I ever grateful - Thanks Bambi!
We were there lodged at the very front and center. Awesome!
The band gave a very impressive performance, fueled by the people packing Araneta Coliseum to the rafters. Everybody was just singing and shouting along.
Talking with the photogs who documented the band’s stay in the Philippines, I learned they were all just in their mid-twenties and their favorite place in the entire country is Megamall.
Look who was at front row to watch …
A chosen few were present at the meet and greet afterwards.
More pictures here. Thanks to Dino for the camera body and M + K for the lens. =)
And while on the subject of Lifehouse, here’s a surprise video especially prepared by the groom - Jed for his bride Les - Lifehouse’s You and Me.
I’ve been feeling moody blue the past couple of weeks - our videos that is. (I’m still my jovial, sarcastic self ;-)).
The weather perhaps?
Or maybe just an interesting experiment. It’s great to be given creative control, when full trust is given by our couple. I’ve been painting our onsite videos with a bluish wash. Cold? Nah. The emotions pierce through the clinical facade. =)
We had a blast in Zamboanga, although the stay was short and the sightseeing brief, the company more than made up for it, Pat Dy’s team and MangoRed made sure it didn’t feel like work. Our hosts, Art and Mariben, were the most gracious. Everything was executed perfectly by wedding planner JP Montilla.
