Wedding Video as Art

Wedding Video as Art

They called it art?!

I am a person of many contradictions .People see me as sociable yet would have no problem holing up by myself at home, with my cat.
I share as much knowledge as I can through teaching and speaking engagements, yet remain fiercely competitive.
I try to remain as humble as I can, (because I know all this can go away), yet revel and bask at successes and praises.

Imma be honest, this got to my head.  It was a note from my couple Tricia and Lance.

THANK YOU FOR CREATING AN ART FORM THAT HAS SHAPED THE WAY WE CELEBRATE LOVE.

I was floored upon reading this piece of high praise,  one of the greatest things ever said to compliment my work in recent memory.

Braggadocio aside, we get appreciation notes, mail and sms on the regular,  and let me tell you – it never gets old and continues to fuel us, with drive and dopamine.

But to be considered “art”, nay – to be considered the creator of an “art form” – that’s on a different planet of appreciation.  One that immediately gets to my head and at the same time, I RECOIL from in an instant.    See?  Contradictions?

Wedding videos? – art?  Wow.

I’ve been telling you about the journey of wedding videographers for the last twenty years from being at the bottom rung of video prod helmed by the trusty Manong Videographer with his bulky cam,  pressing record and zooming and out to where we are now.  It’s quite a long and arduous leap to be sure but to get to OLD MOLDY  2 HOUR RECORDING ON VHS to “art”.  That is something.

And I’ll take it.  Hell I’ll own it.  After all, they said it not me.

“The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.”

It ticks all the boxes right?

Thank you Lance and Tricia for making my head swell.  As if it wasn’t big enough.  Thank you for the appreciation.

Let it be known, that this “form”,  one I love so dearly,  one that moves people, and stirs them in ways only love possibly could, and encourages them to hope and dream, apart from my children, is my life’s greatest work.
