This is exactly the subject title of an email I got from a couple.  Knowing fully well the amount of weddings we shoot in a year, they wanted to know how their wedding can inspire and excite me as a suppliers.

Here was my reply verbatim:

Hi!

Been thinking hard really, since the meeting perhaps. It’s a difficult question to answer.

It’s rare that a supplier gets asked that. After all, it’s us suppliers who try to make it special for the couple.

To answer the question face-value –
It’s going to be special for me if our efforts are appreciated – by you, your immediate family and the guests.
It will be special if we are treated as friends more than vendors.
It will become special if something remarkable happens on your wedding day, something unplanned which will take us by surprise.

But I guess the underlying question is, – What will make our wedding special for you enough for you to produce the best wedding video you’ve ever done in your career?

The answer is tricky.

You and I both know that we give our best efforts to EVERY wedding we do. No exception.  Whether in the grandest hotels or some venue in Intramuros. But sometimes, some kind of magic happens on occasion and we come up with something that surprises even us.

That “magic” unfortunately, is something serendipitous. Unpredictable. Sometimes, we come to a wedding with high hopes because we have a gorgeous bride, a handsome groom, and a beautiful unique venue. Only to fall flat during the vows. Or perhaps a generic homily fails me. Or the couple insisted on staid music. Most importantly and above all, I’m looking for romance between the couple. It does not matter if you are in front of hundreds of people most of the time, you have to feel that you are the only two people in the room, the church or ballroom. Feel it and everything will come after.

No, this does not make it special for me. But you can bet your bottom dollar that the moment I see this, the moment I sense this, I will make damn sure that I will be there to document this and preserve this for all posterity, interpret it through my artistic vision and basically just make the best damn wedding for you and your spouse..  That I owe you.

I suppose this is the best approximation of my answer to your question.
