Sharon and Ronald: SDE

Super 8, videos, weddings 6 Comments »

Most weddings have cars take the bride to the ceremony.  This particular one had a yacht.

Sharon and Ronald’s wedding had the most fun vibe early on in the morning all the way to the reception.  Just lovely!

Been quite a while since we did a Fernbrook wedding.  We still can’t get enough of the koi and the crazy swans!

Lorelei and Anthony’s wedding was simple, intimate and very heartfelt.  Our kind of wedding.  Enjoy the SDE.

At this wedding, so much was happening all at once all the time.

I suppose that that is the task at hand for me as the person in charge of documenting the event.

To  distill the most relevant and most engaging aspects of the wedding
To string together a seemingly endless array of events to form a cohesive whole
To be able to interpret these events using our skills and our art
…and present them in the most captivating manner possible.

Funny. People who don’t know any better think we’re just the “videoguy”.

EDIT: I was getting a lot of feedback regarding the way I wrote the closing statement. To clarify -
the statement was not intended for anybody in particular, nor was it resultant of this particular wedding.

It was simply a statement of fact perhaps to spark discussion.

My deepest apologies to anybody who was slighted.

As I said to Chitine’s mom in an SMS, their family was the sweetest, kindest I have worked with. To say otherwise would have been farthest from the truth.

Did you guys know that I used to be a DJ?  No kidding really.  I interned at the now defunct LA 105.9FM (yup, where you first heard the Eraserheads) and had the chance to be part time one in Lucena City.  (Embarrassingly, it was the blabbermouth DJ kind).

Done with the ramblng, well here’s a first crack at sampling the Pastor’s words for a same day edit. What a headache to edit, but loved every painful minute of it.

Many many thanks to Pastor Julius who laid out the backbone for the edit.

PS:  Check out the “I DO” part.  MOB got so excited she answered in behalf of her daughter!

Audrey and Rich: A Feast for the Senses

Shrine of St. Therese, videos, weddings 16 Comments »

Audrey manages the wedding catering arm of her family’s business - Bizu Pattiserie.  Being part of the industry, she’s seen it all.

And she’s kinda sick of what she’s seen.

Instead, she wanted to give homage to the people who help build the event - the florist, photographer, planners, umm, ehem, the videographer.

Of course special attention was to be devoted to her chefs who labored long and hard hours to make everything perfect.

And so I excused myself from the bridal prep and instead headed directly to kitchen headquarters where dinner and dessert were being prepared.  I also shot the reception setup and planners assisting the guests.  It was more like a behind the scenes take of a wedding.

Enjoy this feast:

I saw how the food was being prepped so I couldn’t help myself during dinnertime.  I had to partake of the Angus and seabass.  Burp!

Cast of Characters:
Chef Ronnie, Alex and Philippe for Bizu
Rita Neri Event Planners
Jing Tanada of Palamuti (who didnt want to be on cam)
Pat Dy - Photography
And that guy in the grey Varvatos sportcoat - he’s the videographer.

My Canon Print Ad Shoot

news 12 Comments »

Some Awesome News:  The good folks over at Canon asked me to be a Brand Ambassador.

I get to talk at seminars and workshops for Canon.
I get priority for product servicing.
Dealer price baby!
I get to wear a Canon patch on my left shirt pocket a la Schumi.

But really, more than anything else that got me excited, besides the Mark IV they’re giving me ;-), I get to be in my own print ad!

Seriously, it’s great to be speaking in behalf of a company you have so much belief in.

You might remember Angela from a teaser I posted recently.

Being a professional model, I asked her if she can be appear with me in the ad.  Isn’t she just gorgeous?

Although I did have to remind her once in a while, that I, in fact, was the star of the show, not her.

No less than eminent commercial photographer John Chua shot the ad.

In industry lingo - yes I had to “work it baby!”

More photos - here.

Thanks to:
Canon - for discovering my potential ;-)
Angela and her lovely family
The Makeup Studio for makeup and styling
Veluz/Nico for the lovely gowns
Oly for editing the photos
Bob for the mattebox

Mia and Carlos: The Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City

Baguio, videos, weddings No Comments »

There are as many fiestas and festivals in the Philippines as there as islands (7,100 give or take).

One such is the Panagbenga held annually in the summer capital - Baguio City.  What a lovely day to get married on.

Mia and Carlos: Same Day Edit from Jason Magbanua on Vimeo.

Entering the bridal suite, I was smitten by the bride’s morena beauty (and Patrick Uy too!).  I heart my job!

Honey and Reese: Shangri-la Boracay

H for Honey. That’s what our dear bride said after receiving her surprise gift (a white Hermes bracelet) from the groom.  Only very close family and friends were in attendance, befitting the intimate ceremony by the beach.

Shangri-la Boracay was beautiful  It was everything they said it would be.  See for yourself…

Jorene and Dave: A Civil Wedding

The cutest, funnest civil wedding I’ve shot. (that John Rana of WeddingsatWork just had to blog about it)

Jorene and Dave’s Civil Wedding from Jason Magbanua on Vimeo.

Edit: March 15th 2010
I’ve had long history with Jorene and the Arguson family. I shot her parents anniversary several years back. We also did Gab’s (their firstborn) 7th birthday party in 2008. It was actually only that time did I realize that Jorene and Dave weren’t actually married (whether in church nor civilly).

They were great friends.
Exceptional parents definitely.
But they weren’t together romantically.
That was 2008.

Fast forward to January 2010. I get a call from Jorene:
Jorene: I’m getting married and you’re doing the video.
Jason: Umm, err, may I ask to whom?!

To which she replied the most brilliant answer.
Jorene: Kanino pa eh di sa tatay ng anak ko at sa kaisa-isang lalaki sa buhay ko!
(Who else but to the father of my son and to the one and only man in my life!)

We are now preparing for their church wedding late this year.
