Aimee and Kendrick: The day after the typhoon.

Santuario de San Jose, videos, weddings 20 Comments »

It was on my Facebook status page last Saturday - you won’t find a more professional bunch than wedding suppliers.  They will be there, come hell or highwater.  And yes, hell and highwater came at the wake of Typhoon Ondoy.

A months worth of rainfall in a day -  and yet every florist, every photographer, every musician and every coordinator I know braved the downpour.  “Just another day at the office”.

Two things of note with the same day edit -

1.  We shot the process by which their invitations were made - laser engraving - kewl!!!  I love the smell of burnt wood in the morning.  They actually own the machine and they can engrave on anything no matter how fine the type or design - even on live cats!  (j/k).

2.  I had to put everything in context so I had to put the newsclips in.

Bring an umbrella!

Florence and Marc: Hawaii Same Day Edit

Overseas, videos, weddings 9 Comments »

Florence and Marc got married in Saint Augustine Church in Waikiki, Hawaii and had their reception at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.  They couldn’t have picked a more picture perfect location.

Chill.  The best way to describe life in the big island, the vibe on the wedding day, the disposition of the people (and Flo’s blue Loubatin’s).

What made the day extra special was having the oppurtunity to shoot with the finest video talents of the Island.  Much thanks and props to Kolby of Aria Studios and Randy Panado ( a brother from another mother- check out his spankin’ new blog!) who lent us his exceptional “flying skills” (not to be missed of course is Mervin of MG Digital  Video - my cross-state buddy).

The big applause after the SDE’s screening is very much shared with the crew who made it possible.  Even though the sked was tight, we were glad to hang out with other Fil-Am videogs in Hawaii including StudioRed.

We were much loved.  Mahalo!

We won four Golds last year at the WEVA Creative Excellence Awards.  I suppose there was no way to go but down.  ;-)

Thus my apprehension of heading down to Orlando for the Gala/Awards night,  but what a night it turned out to be!

Now more than ever, the Filipinos once again asserted their dominance in wedding videography in the international scene.  We counted a total of 20 awards between 9 Pinoy companies.  Unbelievable!  I heard they’re bringing down WEVA to the PI to save on plaque shipping costs ;-).

As for us?  A total of five awards including TWO GOLDS! Not too shabby!.

It was also an awesome experience meeting up for the first time with the headliners of Reframe San Francisco.  Man!  It’s gonna be the best RF yet!

Jeff and Kristine: A Long Island NY Same Day Edit

Overseas, videos, weddings 8 Comments »

Stepping on hallowed ground on a historic date makes you stop and think.

But Jeff said, let’s bring something postive out of it. And thus their wedding date was set on 9/11. Nine years after the fact.

Rain was incessant but spirits weren’t dampened.

It was a crazy day for me and Mervin who shot the wedding with me (thanks MG!). We had to work extra hard as there were no assistants to help us during the shoot. And therefore we are in gratitude to the folks over at MyPinoywedding who did the photography (helped us with our stuff too and had me taste the best Chinese take out in the WORLD!)

Jeff and Kristine! Thanks for having us!

Perya - A Canon 7D short

Proudly presented by Bob Nicolas, Threelogy, Cinemaworks and myself …

Perya (Town Fair) - a Canon 7D Short from Jason Magbanua on Vimeo.

————————

Canon Philippines lent us a pre-production model of the 7d.  We got it Tuesday 6pm and had to return it the following Thursday at noon.

We wanted to document something truly Filipino and came up with the idea of shooting a “Perya”.  There really is no direct equivalent in English. It’s not as grand as a carnival, not as permanent and posh as an amusement park, there are no pumpkins nor cows in competition like a country fair.  It is what it is - a Perya.

Shot in 1920 x 1080 at 24p.  Transcoded to XDcam codec.  Edited in Premiere Pro CS3.

No color grading was utilized.

No additional lights used.
