The First All 5D Wedding Video Shoot

weddings 45 Comments »

It’s dangerous what the mind can think of during idle times.

Case in point: Four of the most prolific (most idle?) studios in the land banded together, planned and executed what could be perhaps the first all 5D wedding video shoot in the world.

Why? Why not?

It was unlike any experience I’ve been through in my nine year career as a videographer. The feeling was overwhelming - working side by side with the industry’s greats not just in the country but of the world as well. I was both fortunate and proud. This may not happen again.

I have found my calling! - well at least for this summer season.

Good times with Bong, M+K, Dino and Pang!

Darryl and Kat: “What seems to be the problem officer?”

Santuario de San Antonio, videos, weddings 4 Comments »

In perhaps one of the most elaborately setup wedding proposals ever, Kat could say nothing more than “Yes I will marry you” to Darryl. (Hopefully not under duress).

You see our groom is a police officer of Virginia’s finest. Darryl contrived a wedding proposal involving flagging down Kat’s car in the interstate highway with the help of his fellow cops.

“Could you please show us your license Ma’am”.
“Ok please turn around and face your car.”.

What followed next was not a frisking but a Darryl down on one knee, engagement ring in one hand. How can you say no to that?

Bah! These cops are softies!

Check out the same day edit here of their wedding. (more 5D madness). =)

A Kastila and a Chinoy?  - It could happen!

Here’s the Same Day Edit we created for the couple.  It’s a slow buildup to 2:22.  That’s where it really kicks in.

Enjoy!

The WeddingsAtWork Community

videos, whatnot 9 Comments »

Can you believe we’ve been doing wedding videos full time for nine years now? NINE YEARS!

Me and Pang were still dating then.
Jakob and Lukas weren’t even conceived yet (not in the tummy nor the mind).
We were holed up in a 20 sq. m. studio unit.
I was still delivering in VHS.
Raves were all the rage (ABGs!).

(our 2nd bridal fair in Intramuros - 2001)

We love to look back and reminisce at our beginnings.  And without fail, we always find WeddingsAtWork to be inextricably tied to our history.

It was a W@wie who stumbled upon our analog work in Quezon province.
It was a W@wie who posted our name and contact details in the still to explode world wide web.
Our first several gigs were all W@wies, people who booked us out of sheer trust and a glimmer of talent.

And so how can you not put your heart and soul into creating a piece to thank back a community who has given so much?

The 1st WeddingsAtWork Videofest

Last January 30th, the first WeddingsAtWork Videofest was held in Powerplant Cinema.

The experience was awesome - having your work shown in the big screen with a whole industry (brides, colleagues, friends) watching.

The event coincides with the 10th Anniversary of W@W and we were tasked to do videos shedding light on the different aspects of the community.

Pheoben Teocson’s parody of Forrest Gump brought the house down.  I was in laughing in tears at the exceptional acting skills of the Mango boys. The concept is pure genius

At its core, W@W is really just a website, and Kumpareng Bob had the most difficult task of explaining that in visual language.  Fortunately for us, that is his forte. I am absolutely a fan of Bob’s work.

Being the vain person I am, one of my favorites was Threelogy’s take on the supplier side of things (which featured me among others).  I so love the editing on this one.

In the online international forums, I always speak highly of how the wedding industry in general looks highly upon wedding videographers.  The support we get is light years ahead of any country or region in the world.  But I guess this also speaks of the quality of work the Filipino videographers produce.  We are an easy bunch to support.  ;-)

Mitzi and Henry: An SDE with the Canon 5d MkII

Santuario de San Antonio, videos, weddings 16 Comments »

Shooting at the Presidential Suite of Peninsula Manila was an experience!  The place was massive!  I swear you could get lost in there.  On top of the maid and butler service, what did it for me was the chocolate coated strawberries and the mechanical “music contraption”  (which you’ll see at the start of the clip).

Gary Valenciano did a surprise song number during communion much to Mitzi’s surprise.  Her look then was priceless.   The couple also brought the house down with their first dance - a Tango done to Scent of a Woman.

I initially just thought to sprinkle the edit with shots from the Mark II.   But I figured I could do this and do everything with the Canon.

Thanks to Mervin for lending me the body, M+K for the extra battery and Pat Dy for the charger.  =)

Carmela and Ryan: Anvaya Cove

edit: check out the mind blowing first dance of Ryan and Carmela

Mela and Rye’s First Dance from Jason Magbanua on Vimeo.

Given the company that the couple kept (Buth and Missys, Bryan and Cherish), I knew this was going to be an extremely fun and non-sober party.

We were pretty excited driving up to Anvaya Code in Olongapo.  It was a loooooong drive, but Ryan and Carmela kept up the humor by peppering the drive with funny signages (Gutom ka na ba?; The Long and Winding Road!;  Sceninc ‘di ba?)

As expected, everyting was so laid back and carefree.  Perhaps a little more carefree in the groom preps, right Butch?

But these happy laugh out loud types are the best weepers too.  And the ceremony didn’t disappoint.  Check out the Same Day Edit.

Oh I almost forgot, there was this lovely lovely drum ensemble (the name escapes me at the moment),  who led the couple and guests in frenzied dancing from the beachfront up to the reception area

Congratulations Ryan and Carmela!
