Be Careful at the Mandarin Hotel Parking Lot
tips, whatnot September 28th, 2008It’s a common thing to say to oneself - “Nah, it will not happen to me.” But eventually, it will, whatever it is.
Last Friday, September 26th, we were shooting a wedding in Mandarin Hotel. It was around reception time and we were parked from between 9pm to 12mn at the lot directly in front of the hotel. It was an evening wedding in Santuario San Antonio hence the late time.
My SUV got broken into. The rear window, where the spare tire is, was completely ripped off. Equipment got stolen and the sense of violation sucks.
It only goes to show that bad luck and man’s ill intent can and will strike anytime, anywhere. Even if it’s in the grounds of a five star hotel.
What can one do? Nothing apparently, because - “The vehicle owners expressly agree that the hotel shall not be liable for any damage to or loss of the vehicle and/or its contents. “ Sucks to be me right now.
But now you know, don’t leave anything valuable behind WHEREVER you are parking. And Mandarin, I’m “kinda” glad it’s the first incident of its kind (according to your security), but I sure do hope it won’t happen again.
I don’t know what to say… $H*#T happens.

Awww… Jason, really sorry to hear it. Yep, you’re right, it can happen to anyone, no matter what we think or how reliable our car security system seems to be. It’s a very expensive lesson learned, I guess.
Salt to the wound really is that establishments don’t really do much to help in situations like these.
Well, what can we do, right, other than smile (albeit ruefully), move on and know that things will always be better?

Sorry to hear that, J. It happened to my fiancee’s car (now my wife.. hehe..) when parking at one of the most prestigeous shopping mall in town. They stole away her WEDDING SHOES just a week before our wedding!

Well,at least you’re okay. A car is only a material thing,Life,well..it’s priceless.
This truly sucks. Now do I have to increase the limit to accommodate new purchase of new equipment or new SUV kaya. Sorry, Jason, can’t help it especially if I have a huge quota to fill :).

this has happened enough times to people i know that i’ve grown paranoid about my equipment and suspicious characters all the time. I feel bad for my distrust of fellow humans, but sometimes that paranoid distrust is necessary and justified. anyway, good luck with insurance and buying new equipment and stuff. that really stinks.
i hope you didn’t lose any tapes, though. that’s the most precious thing you own on a wedding day. (I always keep mine on my person at all times. i can replace a camera, not video of the first dance.)
