Mariben and Art
Zamboanga, weddings July 24th, 2008I’ve been feeling moody blue the past couple of weeks - our videos that is. (I’m still my jovial, sarcastic self ;-)).
The weather perhaps?
Or maybe just an interesting experiment. It’s great to be given creative control, when full trust is given by our couple. I’ve been painting our onsite videos with a bluish wash. Cold? Nah. The emotions pierce through the clinical facade. =)
We had a blast in Zamboanga, although the stay was short and the sightseeing brief, the company more than made up for it, Pat Dy’s team and MangoRed made sure it didn’t feel like work. Our hosts, Art and Mariben, were the most gracious. Everything was executed perfectly by wedding planner JP Montilla.

loved the song! loved the video! tori amos and jason magbanua together totally rocks!
Oh Jason… Only you would use Tori Amos as the wedding AVP song. So unexpected! We’ve been scouring for songs to use for our own and it just never occurred to me to even consider Tori Amos! Hahaha! It’s endearing and amusing in the same way. THIS is why we chose you.
wow, you went to my hometown?!? cool! i hope u felt the warmth we zamboanguenos are known for
see you soon sir j!=)
Hi Jason, my idol!
I don’t know if you already know this, but we moved our wedding date just so we could have you to cover it, and boy, am I soooo glad we did!
Like I’ve told you the first time we met, I have been an avid follower of your blog since way back 2006 and it’s really so so awesome that I am now reading a post on our own wedding here. I was so excited to go home as soon as I got your text. Hahah!
I love love love our onsite AVP! I was thrilled to learn that we’re both huge Tori Amos fans, and when you suggested A Sorta Fairytale, I got convinced that it was a videographer-client match made in heaven!
Remember the really big hug I gave you after our AVP was played? I feel like giving you that hug every time Art & I watch the AVP, which has been everyday since our wedding. The AVP is just perfect, and it really wowed our Zamboangeno guests.
Thank you SO much [to you & the team] for being one of those who made our wedding even more special than it already was.
I love how you captured so many of the moments during the day, I really can’t say thank you enough.
More power to you [& the team]. May you make more couples as deliriously happy as you have made me & Art through your wedding videos!
You are truly the best!
Nessa, Tisha, Much as I would like to take the credit for the song selection, It was Mariben who picked the artist. At the mention of Tori’s name, I was already bursting with excitement though.
I was a big big fan since the debut album back in college - and that was quite a few years ago.
Everybody and I mean everybody should get to listen to that album - Little Earthquakes (heartfelt, bare, powerful).
Some other recommendations - Under the Pink (cryptic, haunting), Boys for Pele (grand, multi-layered, even more cryptic). For her more recent work - The Beekeeper stands out.
Some Notable tracks spanning her career:
China
Tear In Your Hand
her cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit
Icicle
God
Cornflake Girl
Caught a Lite Sneeze
Hey Jupiter
her cover of Bright Eyes
Thank You (Led Zep cover)
Honey
A Sorta Fairytale
I Don’t Like Mondays (cover)
Me and A Gun
1000 Oceans (Pang’s favorite)
Black Dove
Sleeps with Butterflies
Yo George (for Dubya)
Sabs, everybody just had a sunny disposition =). And please, drop the Sir. lol
Mariben !!!!
I could hug you right now. Awwww, I heart you na!
Love the video man. Did you use your brevis at this shoot?
I still have d Jackie&Dp onsite avp [circa 2006] u did using Sleeps with Butterflies, which is my all time favorite song.Ü I love d feeling d video gives me, & i still watch it to this day. J.Magbanua + Tori Amos = the best talaga!
Other T. Amos songs I also adore are 1000 Oceans & Silent All These Years. Although I’m not sure if the latter is avp material. Among her albums, I’m very fond of The Beekeeper, as well. What can i say? Client-Videograher match made in heaven nga talaga! Ü
